Pathways to Energy Independence for Latvia
Research on Latvia’s Energy Security and Sustainability
Nidus Balticus has conducted a comprehensive study on energy security, focusing on Latvian residents’ views on energy independence, renewable energy, and the impact of recent geopolitical events on energy policy. Through surveys and focus groups across Latvia, including with diverse communities, this project sheds light on the national priorities and challenges for a secure, sustainable energy future.
Key Findings
The research revealed a strong public preference for renewable energy sources, with water, solar, and wind ranking highest for local energy production. However, concerns about costs and dependence on foreign energy supplies remain prevalent. While most respondents valued energy independence, some emphasized affordability as a key factor. Among Latvian-speaking participants, many expressed a willingness to pay more for energy if it supported local, sustainable sources.
Strengthening Latvia’s Energy Future
The insights from this study are integral to Nidus Balticus’s ongoing work in promoting sustainable energy policies and empowering communities to participate in energy-saving practices. This project supports Latvia’s journey toward greater energy independence and highlights the importance of community awareness and participation in achieving a secure and resilient energy system for all.
